I feel very shocked today! I had chat with a friend who told me about her little grandchild who attends a mixed gender nursery. The grandchild is two years old, and she wanted to join the nursery sports club.
She was told by the lady who runs the nursery that she cannot join the nursery sports club because she is not a boy!!! My friend noticed all the photos at the nursery displayed boys playing in the sand pit while all the girls played with dolls and prams.
The girl is two years old! What other unconscious gender bias stemming from traditions, norms, values, culture, and experience are facing young girls of today?
What assumptions are being made by the nursery, that girls are calm, sweet, and caring while boys are wild, adventurous, and boisterous?
